NEBOSH IGC SYSTEM UPDATES 2026

The NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety has been revised and updated for 2026. Teaching of the revised syllabus will commence on 2 February 2026, with the first assessments taking place from 4 March 2026. RRC and Elinor International have adapted quickly to these changes.

There has never been a better time to join the thousands of people who hold the NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

Thousands of experts and leading organisations have helped us update the world's most respected health and safety qualification. This means it is designed to reflect the needs of today's employers, giving students everything they need to know and do to make their workplace safer.

Relevant to any workplace, the NEBOSH International General Certificate is ideal for managers, supervisors and anyone with responsibilities in health and safety management. It is also perfect for those embarking on a career in health and safety, offering them a springboard to success.

Trusted by many prestigious organisations such as Maersk, Shell, BP, Skanska, Nestlé and the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Changes to the assessment:

  • IG2: This will be renamed GIC2.
  • These will continue to be practical risk assessments, with the following changes:
  • Submission: the student will submit the assessment in the same way as for Unit One, via the NEBOSH online assessment platform. The deadline for submitting this unit will be 10 working days after the GNC1/GIC1 assessment.
  • Marking: This will change from a pass/fail marking system to a points-based marking system, and a document detailing the marks will be automatically issued to the student. The minimum pass mark will be 60%.
  • Results: The results for both units will be published on the same day, 60 working days after the 24-hour scenario-based assessment (GNC1/GIC1). This means that students will receive the results for their entire qualification at the same time.

Key dates:

  • 7 January 2026: public announcement of the planned update
  • Students who take the IG1&IG2 exams or finish their exams on 4 March 2026 will do so under the current 2019 syllabus.
  • Students who register for exams from March 2026 onwards will all move to the new 2026 syllabus.
  • This syllabus does not involve any changes to the syllabus, so everything studied is valid and the only relevant change is the IG2 (GIC2) exam, which we have already discussed.
  • 2 February 2026: teaching of the revised programme based on the 2026 syllabus begins

Will I continue to receive a document with comments on Unit 2?

We will issue a different type of document with comments; you will now receive a breakdown of your marks, showing how the marks were awarded for each section of the assessment. This will be sent to you automatically by email along with your results.
